 DESTROY THE EGGS
You may or may not have some pent up anger at this moment so why not take it out on an invasive species?

Friendly neighbor, Rachel, showed us some common places that she's found the gross Lanternfly eggs (see below). The more nests that are destroyed during egg laying season, the less lanternflies next year!

You can learn more about how to spot & destroy Spotted Lanternfly eggs here

SOUTH PHILLY FOOD CO-OP SEEKS MEMBERSHIP
South Philly Food Co-op is a community-owned grocery store 10 years in the making that is opening its doors in a few weeks! New and exciting construction updates are non stop, and it is looking more and more like a grocery store every day. Just these last few weeks alone, the walk-in cooler & freezer arrived, refrigeration was set up, lights were added, and the outdoor sign was installed.

The Co-op's mission is "Using food as a force for good—at our tables, in our community and for our planet". On SPFC's shelves you will find food you can trust to be good for your health and our planet, prioritizing fairly-traded and sustainably-produced products free of harmful additives or chemicals. Whenever possible, they buy direct from local farmers and food-makers because they believe in supporting the community.

Now - just before the doors open - is the perfect time to become a Member-Owner of South Philly Food Co-op. When you become a Member-Owner, you will quite literally be an owner of the store along with currently 1362 of your neighbors, a number that is growing by the day! You will be in a very special family who want to advance the mission, support the community, and be part of something bigger.

To join South Philly Food Co-op or to learn more about the benefits and perks of becoming a Member-Owner, please feel free to check out the website: https://www.southphillyfood.coop/member-ownership. They look forward to seeing you shopping in the store in a few short weeks!

Request water bill assistance before shutoffs restart in 2021

The Philadelphia Water Department and PhilaRevenue took the bold step of extending COVID-19 emergency water-protection measures. That means residential and commercial water customers won’t be shut off until April 1, 2021 –even in the case non-payments. However, if you’re not paying your water bill, your balance will continue to grow and become harder to manage once shutoffs restart. Get ahead of the problem by applying for water bill help today: www.phila.gov/water-bill-help. A loss of income during the pandemic may qualify you for special assistance.

SUPPORT MARIAN ANDERSON HISTORICAL SOCIETY

Our neighborhood's beloved Marian Anderson Museum & Historical Society suffered from flooding in the basement of the Museum and is working to repair and cover the cost of the damage.  In addition, the Historical Society and Museum has been closed due to COVID and unable to receive any support loans or grants to subsidize their ongoing operational costs.
