A MESSAGE FROM SOUTH OF SOUTH NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION
Wednesday, Sept. 12, 6:30-8:30p
E.M. Stanton Elementary (1700 Christian)

Come out and meet your neighbors at our next neighborhood community meeting!

At this meeting, we'll be providing an informational update on our Safety Committee's Walkability Plan and accepting in-person* nominations for SOSNA's Board of Directors. It's a great opportunity to meet other SOSNA volunteers and learn about our organization if you're new to the neighborhood and looking to get involved!

Food will be provided.

The SOSNA Safety Committee's Walkability Plan goal is:

To foster a safer and more pleasant pedestrian environment, to educate citizens about healthy streetscape design, and to create city-wide awareness of innovative traffic calming that includes pedestrian and bicycle safety measures.

To identify ways to improve conditions for neighbors, pedestrians, and bikers that bring vitality to the South of South neighborhood.

To create safe pathways to the schools through a combination of education and roadway design.

With this first phase of the project, the SOSNA’s Safety Committee aims to create safer routes to school through traffic calming measures at the intersections of 20th & Catharine Street and 17th & Montrose Street. Traffic calming measures have been found to slow traffic through various solutions, such as using street design changes to make conditions safer for all road users. For instance, improving the visibility of and for pedestrians at crosswalks, improving neighborhood appearance with landscaping, and  enhancing the park gateways through placemaking.

Friends of PCI is One Quarter of the Way towards their Goal of Helping Mobility-Impaired Children and Adults access our Neighborhood Library!

Friends of Philadelphia City Institute (PCI) reports $100,000 has been collected towards the goal of $400,000 for the purpose of installing a lift in our local branch library on Rittenhouse Square. Thanks to all the neighbors who have contributed to this campaign.

This branch is the third busiest branch in Philadelphia. Unfortunately, our mobility-impaired neighbors are shut out from two important parts of the library - the Children's Room and the Community Room, both on the lower level, accessible only by stairs. The lift will remedy this problem. They need all neighbors to contribute large and small amounts to this effort. Please send a check to Free Library of Philadelphia Foundation/PCI Lift, 1901 Vine Street, Suite 111, Philadelphia PA 19103.  Click or tap here for more info
