Green Infrastructure at Greenfield School Slows Sewer System Overflow
| |
Neighborhood heroes: Rob Rumburg and Fred Kaulbach at the Greenfield playground. | |
Greenfield's playground has a soft,
artificial surface that is permeable, meaning it has small holes that
let raindrops pass through. Below ground is a network of perforated
pipes that collect and channel the rainwater to soil and rain
gardens-where Fred Kaulbach, Lisa Armstrong and other volunteers have
planted 40 trees-thereby diverting it from the overtaxed sewer system.
It's a bonus that this green infrastructure supports trees, some
fruit-bearing, in an area where children play.

The Silver Binder Presentation: Organize Your Personal Information for Safe Keeping
William Penn House, 1919 Chestnut, Community Room, 1st Fl, Tuesday, 10/15, 2 PM
Where
are your important documents such as insurance policies, the deed to
your home, bank and investment statements? Who will take care of your
pet if you have an emergency? Who will take care of you? Mario
Oropeza, a Penn's Village volunteer, developed this workshop to get you
started on what may seem like an intimidating task: organizing the
vital details about your legal, health, and financial affairs as well as
important contacts. A binder will be available at the workshop with
forms which will enable you to document everything your family and
friends need to know.
The
cost of the binder is $35 for Penn's Village members and volunteers; $45
for other guests (cash or checks only please) and includes a digital
version of the forms. Guests are welcome to attend three Penn's Village
programs at $10 per program before becoming a member and/or volunteer.
The guest cost for this program is included in the cost of the binder.
