Let's include everyone in community programs at the library

Head Librarian Erin Hoopes of the Philadelphia City Institute library on Rittenhouse Square receives phone calls from people with mobility impairments about programs on the lower level of the library and, sadly, she must tell these callers those programs are not accessible to them. Popular events coming in October are Conversations with Pennsylvania Ballet, Teen Reading Lounge, and Preschool Costume Party. What a shame to miss these events because you can't walk down stairs. Friends of PCI (Philadelphia City Institute), reports that, as of September 12, they have raised over $149,445 towards the goal of $400,000 needed to install a lift. In order to begin the bidding process, 70% of the goal must be raised - $280,000. Thank you for contributions you have already given, and please consider sending more. Send a check to: Free Library of Philadelphia Foundation/PCI Lift, 1901 Vine Street, Suite 111, Philadelphia PA 19103.
Shoe Carnival Giveback Program

In a continued partnership with Shoe Carnival and Philadelphia School District, 10 percent of total purchases at select participating locations will go back to the shopper's school of choice upon checkout.  The program has since expanded to include 350 Philadelphia metro area schools.  The schools participating in our area are:
  • Albert Greenfield School
  • Freire School
  • Russell Byers Charter School
  • Science Leadership Academy
