Sitting
Rittenhouse Square Sitting Ban

CCRA is glad that the Rittenhouse Square sitting ban is over.  Some 70% of member responses in our survey this past Monday opposed those signs, as did a majority of our Board.  The comments to our survey indicate that most felt that the sitting-ban was overly broad.  One-third of the comments (often from people opposing the ban) mentioned marijuana use in the park, indicating concern about that issue, though mostly in a second-hand smoke context.  Fewer people expressed concern over vandalism/graffiti, which is generally cleaned within 24-48 hours of appearing.

Full survey results can be found here.

Most important is continued dialogue among everybody about the space we all cherish.  We believe the Friends of Rittenhouse Square, as well as those who objected to the sitting ban, acted in good faith to make the Square better for all people.
Street
Street Closures Due to Movie Production

Kevin Hart and Bryan Cranston's latest project, Untouchable, is set to film a scene in Center City on Friday, Jan. 27.  The Untouchable project will film at Market Street and John F. Lane
Lane Closure on the South Street Bridge thru 2/28

CHOP has secured a permit from the Philadelphia Street Dept. for a temporary lane closure on the South Street Bridge that will allow them to load materials on the South Street Plaza. The intermittent closures will take place starting today, through 2/28 on an as-needed basis. Any deliveries will be limited to the hours between 10:00am - 2:00pm to avoid impacting rush hour traffic. Pedestrian traffic will be maintained but detoured to the opposite side of the street at controlled intersections.
