A NOTE FROM YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION:
Dear Friends & Neighbors,
Thank you all for a successful Plazapalooza
that was held on Sunday May, 15, 2022 where the neighborhood gathered
for food, music, drinks, and family fun at the South St. Triangle. We
could not have done it without all of you and our wonderful sponsors!
This summer, we continue our efforts to preserve the neighborhood
history by creating a walking tour and preserving the oral histories of
long-term residents and business owners. If you're interested in
getting involved or hearing more, please join us on June 1, 2022 at 7pm
for our Preservation Task Force meeting; you can find the virtual
meeting information below.
SOSNA has partnered with the STREAM Engine
to provide the community with a co-working and after-school activity
space at our office, 1901 Washington Ave. Our board member and
life-long neighborhood resident, Brandon Washington (son of the late Ron
Washington) continues to build this space, which now includes an audio
room that is available for booking. This space has welcomed grade
school students to learn STEM skills after school, art exhibitions, and
community meetings. To find out more or reserve space, please email
Brandon Washington at 1901bwashington@gmail.com.
This month we said a sad but grateful goodbye to our Executive Director,
Nicole Koedyker. Nicole has joined an exciting firm called Council
Fire and is loving her new work with them. While we cannot express how
much she has meant to our organization and this neighborhood, we thank
her for her service and wish her all the best at her new job.
Congratulations Nicole!
Below, you can find information on upcoming committee meetings and events, including a donation drive for our neighbor Puentes de Salud. Please see below for more information.
Thank y'all for your support and dedication to this neighborhood and our community!

ANNUAL SUMMER DONATION DRIVE for Puentes de Salud
Donation drive ends this weekend, 5/27
Every summer, our wonderful community partner Puentes de Salud hosts
a summer donation drive. SOSNA members have been critical to the
success of this campaign so please see below for this year's wishlist
and other ways to help.
Puentes de Salud is
a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization - and Graduate Hospital neighbor -
that serves Latinx immigrant families throughout the Philadelphia
region. The Puentes Education branch serves students ages 3-18 and their
families through year-round, out-of-school-time programming. Since 2013, we have run a summer program for elementary-aged students in South Philadelphia, and this
year will be our first time returning to in-person summer programming
since 2019. Our program will engage 40 students ages 6-12 in a month-long
camp to explore multilingual literacy, the arts, field trips, and more.
We are also celebrating graduations for our 13 eighth grade students
and 7 high school seniors. We are in need of supplies both for
our summer program and gift bags for graduating students. Please
consider purchasing some items from our Amazon wishlist by 5/27 and sharing it in your networks.
Thank you - we truly appreciate your support!
