A MESSAGE FROM SOUTH OF SOUTH NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION

As SOSNA celebrates Black History Month, we want to share some ideas and actions to celebrate Black history every day.

Join us each week to hear some of recommendations for podcasts, movies, organizations to donate to and more! We'd love to hear you thoughts and ideas.

This week, we're EDUCATING OURSELVES ON LOCAL BLACK HISTORY and SUPPORTING LOCAL BLACK-OWNED BUSINESSES

View online exhibitions at the African American Museum of Philadelphia (AAMP)

  • AAMP Presents Black History Month Virtual Workshop Series: ECBACC STARS ($7, a virtual workshop on comic book storytelling, and how to get started in the industry. This event is ideal for kids ages 12 and up. Advance registration is required)
Take a walking tour of Philadelphia's Underground Railroad history via The Philadelphia Inquirer (FREE)

Leaders and Legends of North Philadelphia walk-through art exhibition at Smith Memorial Playground (pay-what-you-wish, through Feb. 28)

REVOLUTION: A Programmatic Collaboration between Black History Untold and the Penn Museum on Wednesday, Feb. 10 at 6:00p (FREE, virtual)

The Free Library of Philadelphia presents The HistoryMakers to their free digital resources. With your Free Library card, you can access the country’s largest archive of African American oral history videos, with stories from history makers in politics, art, science, education, activism, business, media, and entertainment. You can search the archive of high-quality primary source videos and transcripts by name, date, geography, topic, or keyword (FREE)
