Message from the CCRA President Maggie Mund

Last year, I and several other CCRA board members attended the Philadelphia Citizen’s Second Annual Ideas We Should Steal FestivalIf you are not familiar with the Festival, the organizers convene several of the nation’s most innovative urban thinkers and global thought leaders sharing bold ideas that can move our city forward. The festival provided an inspiring look at how others have solved pressing social problems with the mantra “It can happen here”.

I am pleased to tell you that this year CCRA is a community sponsor of the Third Annual Ideas We Should Steal Festival, which means our members are entitled to a 33% discount on tickets. And this year’s festival is all online, making attendance even easier. The festival will be held on the first four Tuesdays in December, ‪from 5:30-7:30pm, December 1, 8, 15, 22; guests may attend one week or all four weeks.

Panels will address changing police culture, curbing gun violence, moving the needle on poverty, using capitalism for good, and art as a force for social change.

For a full schedule, please visit www.thephiladelphiacitizen.org. And to sign up for the discounted tickets, visit here. Use discount code CitizenPartner.

What? Something Good? About Lanternflies, no Less?

Just when you think you know something….
Turns out the hated plague known as the lanternfly produces some very delicious honey, if you can believe it. Tastes “oaky”, “the epitome of autumn”. Goes well on poppy biscuits. And you can buy some, from the Philadelphia Bee Co., at $14 per jar. Just ask for “Doom Bloom”. Seriously.

Pop-Up Music Concerts in Washington Sq. West

What started as a summertime response to the closing of music halls has continued
into Autumn as pop-up classical concerts appear occasionally on Iseminger St.
in Washington Square West. A Schubert octet featuring strings, woodwinds and
French horn? Life can be good.

Do you have the time to take a couple of surveys?

To help SEPTA better understand the changing needs and demands of its customers, they are inviting you to take part in a short online survey. This link is for the SEPTA COVID-19 Travel Survey: Fall 2020, through which the Authority hopes to glean information on customer sentiment, feedback on the various health and safety measures SEPTA has implemented throughout the system as well as trends and shifts in travel and overall mobility amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
