Fire in Fitler Square this morning

A construction site fire has been reported. It was quickly detained.  No reported injuries have occurred. Thank you to our First Responders who took care of this quickly.
Approval sought for residential tower on Trader Joe's lot on 22nd St.

On Sept. 1, the owners of the Trader Joe's parking lot on 22nd St will go before the Zoning Board of Adjustment to request approval for the construction of a 341-unit residential tower. Plans call for the residential units to occupy tower floors 7 through 29. 145 car parking spaces would be available in floors 0 through 6; an additional 103 spaces would be available via an accessory garage. Plans also call for 114 bicycle spaces. As the lot is zoned for mixed-commercial use, construction of a residential-use only tower would likely require a variance.

Trash Piling Up? Here's where you can take it.
You'll need to cart your own trash there. But drop-offs are free, and public hours were recently expanded. You can now swing by daily, from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. If you want to avoid crowds,  go before 8 a.m. or after 5 p.m., but even if there's a line when you arrive, the process is typically quick. Expect to spend five to ten minutes moving through the drop-off process.
Philadelphia's Sanitation Convenience Center drop-off process

Visits to the Sanitation Convenience Center are outdoors. You must wear a mask, and you must show proof that you're a city resident. The centers are gated. When you arrive, you'll need to show a valid ID (or a piece of mail with your city address on it) to an attendant. The attendant will then direct you on where to go depending on what kind of trash you're hauling. The centers are organized into sections for different categories of trash, including regular household trash; recycling; electronics; appliances; bulk items like furniture; yard waste; and tires.

What's accepted

You're allowed to drop off regular household items once a day and oversized items once a week.

VoteSafe Pennsylvania Aims to Help Voters Access Safe Options For Election

VoteSafe Pennsylvania has launched a statewide bipartisan campaign that aims to ensure every Pennsylvania voter has access to safe voting options for the November election.

As covid-19 threatens to disrupt traditional voting procedures, VoteSafe Pennsylvania is advocating for secure mail-in ballots and safe in-person voting sites. The group is also educating voters about what voting options are available to them, as this year marks the first time all Pennsylvania voters can vote via mail-in ballot.
