On
Thursday night [Nov 21] at approximately 10PM, there was an altercation at the
entrance of Rittenhouse Square at 18th and Walnut street. As a result,
one man was assaulted and died at Jefferson Hospital later that night as
a result of his injuries. According to Office[r] O'Shea of the 9th
District, there were several witnesses and they have all been
interviewed. The police are pursuing several leads, and feel confident
those responsible will be apprehended soon. Captain Hooven says that a
greater police presence will be visible in and around Rittenhouse
Square.
CCRA is working with the Friends of Rittenhouse Square and the 9th Police District to schedule a community meeting addressing public safety the week of December 2. Stay tuned for exact details of the time and place.
