What is Park(ing) Day?
DID YOU KNOW? Philadelphia has over 10,000
acres of paved streets + nearly 4 parking spaces per household
PARK(ing) Day PHL,
held annually on the third Friday of September, provides an opportunity
to explore how public spaces could be better designed to serve us all.
Parking spaces on the street are transformed for the day by volunteer
groups into mini "parklets" the size of a car. These parklets allow us
to better understand how much space in our city is given over to
automobiles and invite you to engage with cleverly designed, temporary
public spaces.
PARK(ing) Day challenges us all to consider whether we are making the best use of our limited urban spaces.
SOSNA is only able to do the work that we do with the support of our
neighbors, our neighborhood businesses, and our community partners. We
depend on the countless hours our residents volunteer with SOSNA, and we
rely on generous donations, like yours, from neighbors and businesses
to carry out our mission of improving our community.
