Property Tax Assessment Appealers Update
In
our e-newsletter of Dec 20, 2018, we reported on Bill 171009, which
provides relief for taxpayers who appealed their reassessments in 2018.
Bill 171009, passed by City Council in December 2018, suspends interest
and penalties for those who timely pay their property tax as computed on
the prior 2017 assessment and also timely pay the assessment
determined via the appeal process.
Although
passed by City Council, the Bill cannot become law until Mayor Kenney
takes action. The Mayor has until Jan 24 to sign the Bill, veto it or
let it pass without his signature.
As
of this publication, Mayor Kenney has not signed Bill 171009 to give
relief to taxpayers. If you are concerned about your property tax bill,
we suggest contacting the Mayor's office to urge him to sign Bill
171009. 215-686-2181 or james.kenney@phila.gov.
In the meantime, we will continue to work with the Crosstown Coalition to address problems with the new assessments.

First Level Review Update
Residents who have filed a
First Level Review (FLR) with the Office of Property Assessment in
process should be aware that the Board of Revision of Taxes is allowing
you to reserve your right to file a timely formal appeal, despite
inaction on a FLR. The BRT has requested that submission of an appeal be
filed by January 31, 2019. Your appeal application, available from the BRT website,
should indicate that you have a First Level Appeal Pending. Any
questions regarding your status, contact that Board of Revision of
Taxes at 215-686-9283 or Office of Property Assessment at 215-686-9223.
