Chestnut St. Bridge Reconstruction will Impact the Schuylkill River Trail

PennDOT will soon be performing much needed repairs to the Chestnut Street Bridge. As part of this work, the contractor needs to make masonry repairs and repoint the piers and abutment.  For more information, click or tap here

Schuylkill Crossing at Grays Ferry

The contractor has started the demolition of the railroad truss bridge. The demolition phase will also include the removal of the massive gears supporting the truss and the deteriorated fender system. Once the crossing is functional, trail users on the east side will be able to reach Bartram's Garden. This crossing will be a dramatic addition to the entire Schuylkill Banks trail. In conjunction with the proposed Christian to Crescent Connector, the Banks trail and greenway will link many Philadelphia neighborhoods to each other and the greater Schuylkill River Trail. Learn more about this project here

Help Mobility-Impaired Children and Adults Access PCI Library

The Free Library, the Philadelphia City Institute (PCI), on Rittenhouse Square, is the third busiest branch in Philadelphia. Unfortunately, the mobility-impaired neighbors are shut out from two important parts of the library - the Children's Room and the Community Room, both on the lower level, accessible only by stairs. Friends of PCI and the Free Library Foundation have collaborated to develop a plan to install a lift and ramp so that all children can attend storytimes and read books in the Children's Room and all adults can attend programs in the Community Room. PCI asking our community to contribute to this campaign. Please open your hearts and your wallets and contribute to this effort. Send a check to Free Library of Philadelphia Foundation/PCI Lift, 1901 Vine Street, Suite 111, Philadelphia PA 19103. Click or tap here for more info
