A NOTE FROM OUR PROGRAMS MANAGER:
|
|
|
Neighbors,
I can't believe our summer is coming to a close. Luckily, our committees
and board members are working hard to make sure that you have more
opportunities to engage with our organization and neighbors in the Fall!
Some important things to note this month are Board Nominations, SOSNA
Dines Out at Kei Sushi, and our Police Community Meeting with Special
Guest Larry Krasner (DA Candidate).
We're saying farewell to a few of our Board Members in October as they
move on to keep up their hard work being changemakers in Philly. We're
on the prowl for five new board members from our community to help us
move SOSNA forward. Know someone passionate, engaged, and energetic who
can help lead SOSNA? Nominate them (or yourself) by Sept. 10! Read more about board nominations here.
We've got a lot of great events and opportunities to get involved as we bridge from Summer to Fall. I'll see you soon!
Best,
Nicole Koedyker

After
completing Phase 1 of the construction last year, we have spent the past
year fundraising for the second and final phase of construction. This
will include installation of benches, trees, flowers, and a water feature, and will allow us to open the park to the public.
We have secured $175,000 in funding from various grants and generous donations. Before breaking ground, we need to raise approximately $20,000 more. We are launching a fundraising campaign to raise this money from neighbors and friends over the coming weeks.
Our plan is to finalize the fundraising and break ground in September,
in time for the fall tree planting season! So don't delay - big or small
contributions help!

SOUP GROUP X UBC GARDEN OF EDEN
|
|
|
SOSNA has recently
contributed $2,500 to the UBC Garden of Eden, a collaboration between
the Union Baptist Church on 19th and local artist/urban farmer and
neighbor, Meei Ling Ng. The garden aims to provide fresh vegetables,
fruits, and flowers to the Union Baptist Church Soup Kitchen and guests,
attracting volunteers/neighbors/visitors to visit the church and
garden.
Our COPS committee is exploring ways to bring together SOSNA Soup Groupers and Union Baptist Church Soup Kitchen.
