The Royal Theater & Neighbors in Need

Friends & Neighbors,
SOSNA will be hosting a community meeting on Thursday March 30th at 7pm regarding
the redevelopment of 1524-34 South Street, also known as The Royal Theater. This by-right
development will entail the preservation of the building's facade on South Street, 57 apartment units
and a large retail space in a mixed-use building on South Street, and a row of seven townhomes on
Kater Street. The property is owned by Florida developer Robert Roskamp, and OCF Realty will be
managing the construction of the project. This public meeting is taking place because the project
will go to Civic Design Review in April. To find out more about this important project in our
neighborhood, please come to the meeting, which will take place at the SOSNA office at
1901 Christian Street.
You have neighbors in need! Please consider donating to our elderly neighbors on the 2200 block
of Fitzwater Street, who have lost practically everything as a result of their house fire just over a
week ago. There are several ways to help out, which are the following:
  • Immediate needs are for clothes, shoes and toiletries. Shoe sizes are 9.5 and 10.  Medium or
large shirts and pant sizes 32w x 30L, though of course larger will work too.
  • They are also caring for their cats and could use cat food and supplies.
  • They will need to find accommodation in the area, so we are looking for suggestions for
rentals of approx. 6 months in or close to our neighborhood (e.g. a 2 BR in the
    $1200-1500/month range).
  • There is a gofundme page set up to help with things like rent, which is accessible here:
    https://www.gofundme.com/the-conaway-family
Donations can be dropped off at the SOSNA General Meeting on Thursday, March 23rd
(the meeting will begin at 7:00 pm at the commercial space at 17th and Carpenter) or at
Doobie's at 22nd and Lombard.
