On the
first Earth Day in 1970, Phila. had its own event. Who was the keynote
speaker? (Hint: He was a Dem. Candidate for Vice Pres.) Play our trivia
contest and you could be a prize winner. Come join your friends and neighbors
as CCRA commemorates the 46th Earth Day and salutes Babette Josephs,
the 2016 winner of the Lenora Berson Community Service Award. Enjoy hors
d'oeuvres and desserts, compliments of Di Bruno Bros.; wine tastings,
compliments of Moore Bros.; assorted craft beers, compliments of Yards
Brewing; "eco-inspired" music; and several "green community" organizations

Basketball Parade Road Closures
The
following roads are scheduled to close beginning at 11 a.m. on Friday,
April 8
* Market Street - 15th to 23rd Streets
* 15th Street - JFK Boulevard to Chestnut Street
City
Hall vicinity traffic will be diverted as
follows:
* Broad Street north bound vehicles will be diverted to eastbound on
Chestnut, prior to reaching City Hall.
* Market Street East vehicles bound west will be diverted to North Board
Street or to JFK Boulevard.
* Broad Street south bound vehicles will be diverted to JFK
Boulevard.
* I-676 15th St. and Broad St. ramps will be jammed. Please avoid the area if possible and to allow for extra driving
time.
No Parking Zones
All vehicles on the route will be towed, beginning at 6 a.m. on Friday,
April 8 until at least 5 p.m. "No Parking" areas
will include:
* Market Street - 15th to 23rd Streets

Subaru Cherry Blossom
Festival, Mon, 4/11 to Sun, 4/17
For
one week, the Subaru Cherry Blossom Festival celebrates both traditional and
contemporary Japan with a variety of events, including demonstrations of martial
arts, ikebana flower arranging, a restaurant week-Dine Out Japan, as well as
live musical and dance performances.
The
main event, Sakura Sunday (4/17, 9:30 am) is held at the Horticulture Center in
Fairmount Park and features two stages of performers, arts & crafts, Little
Akiba, tours of Shofuso, and much more. Other major events include a Silent
Auction, Japanese Culture Week, and the Cherry Blossom 5K. For more details and

Free Street
Trees
Does
your sidewalk need a tree? Does your block need several trees?
The
Friends of Schuylkill River Park Tree Tenders is the Pennsylvania Horticultural
Society (PHS) certified Tree Tenders group for the Plant One Million campaign
for the CCRA area. They are currently collecting applications for the fall 2016
planting. Trees are chosen and supplied by the PHS and planted by volunteers.
Property owners must agree to care for and water weekly during the growing
season (April - October) for two years.

Institute Library needs Donations of Used Books, CDs, DVDs and Audiobooks for
Book Sale
The Friends of the Philadelphia City Institute Library
on Rittenhouse Square seeks donated books, CDs, DVDs and audiobooks for its Book Sale on Saturday, April 30th, 2016, 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Books must be in excellent or "like new"
condition. Please bring books to the Reference Desk by Saturday, April 23.
All proceeds from this event will be used to support the Philadelphia City
Institute Library.
