The 2016 SOSNA Higher Education Scholarship & PLAZAPALOOZA

Friends & Neighbors, 
Do you have son or daughter, neighbor, family member, friend, cousin, babysitter, etc., who is a high school senior and lives in the SOSNA neighborhood? Please help us spread the word about the SOSNA Higher Education Scholarship and encourage them to apply! The Community Outreach and Partnerships Committee is excited to once again offer a $1,000 scholarship to an exemplary college-bound high school senior in our community. Application information, guidelines and the due date can be found at southofsouth.org/scholarship. After the interview and selection process the scholarship recipient will be announced at Plazapalooza on May 14th!
Did we mention PLAZAPALOOZA!? Mark your calendars folks, Plazapalooza will once again be taking over the Triangles Plaza on Saturday, May 14th (rain date May 15th). Grays Ferry Ave will be filled with food trucks, games, live music (from five different bands), beer from Grace Tavern, and MORE!
Next week at SOSNA: SOSNA's Zoning Committee Meeting will take place on Wednesday, March 16th, please see the agenda in the link below. The SOSNA March Genereal Meeting, on Thursday, March 17th at 6:30pm, will include information on voter registration and an informational presentation on the proposed development at 2501 Washington Avenue. The General Meeting on Thursday will be followed by the SOSNA Safety Committee meeting at 7:30pm.

The next SOSNA Zoning Committee meeting will take place at the SOSNA office, 1901 Christian Street, at 7PM on March 16, 2016.
The SOSNA Zoning Committee always meets the third Wednesday of every month starting at 7 PM.
 
 
March 2016 SOSNA ZONING AGENDA :
1. 2340 Catharine Street: Second floor rear deck with off-street parking and roll up door below in existing rear yard. 
2. 2426 Grays Ferry Avenue: Three-story, 108 S.F. addition (36 S.F. footprint) to three-story single family dwelling and new roof deck to be accessed from existing third floor rear deck.
3. 2057 Kater Street: Third-story addition to an existing two-story single family home.
 
Events
On March 17th at 6:30pm join us for our monthly General Meeting. We'll be joined by a representative from the Office of City Commissioner Al Schmidt to talk about voter registration, absentee ballots, and general election information.
Voting information will be followed by an information presentation by the developer of 2501 Washington Avenue. Plan on attending if you'd like to learn more about the proposed mixed-use project!

Have a bike? Want to register it with the 17th Police District as part of the Bicycle Registration system?
We will be hosting a Bike Registration Event on Saturday, April 16th from 10 am to 12 pm to register your bike! Officers from the 17th Police District will be on-hand, as will members of the SOSNA Safety Committee to help you through the process.

The Philadelphia City Planning Commission is now accepting applications for the spring semester of the Citizens Planning Institute. Citizens Planning Institute (CPI) is the education and outreach arm of the Philadelphia City Planning Commission. CPI’s main programming is a six-week course that empowers citizens to take a more effective and active role in shaping the future of their neighborhoods and of Philadelphia through a greater understanding of city planning and the steps involved in development projects.

Mark your calendars for the 2016 Philly Spring Clean Up! Our Clean Block Reps will be cleaning up their respective blocks and we'll be spring cleaning at Carpenter Green. The cleaning will be followed by a volunteer celebration at Carpenter Green from 12-2pm! More details will follow, so save the date!

The Southwest Center City Tree Planters will be planting trees on Saturday, April 23th at 9am and they’d love to have you join them! To volunteer meet the planters either at the parking lot at 22nd and Bainbridge Streets (for the west side planting), or at the SOSNA Office, 19th and Christian (for the east side planting).
