Announcing The SOSNA Clean Block Campaign

Friends & Neighbors,

SOSNA is excited to announce our Clean Block Campaign launching this spring! The Clean Block Campaign is a
comprehensive plan to address all of the components that contribute to litter in our neighborhood. SOSNA's goal is
to decrease litter and green our streets through partnerships with residents, organizations, schools and community
groups. SOSNA is calling all concerned residents to register as the Clean Block Rep for their block! Clean Block
Reps will work with SOSNA and, more importantly, their neighbors to lead clean ups or make a clean up schedule for
their block, disseminate educational materials on proper trash and recycling practices, distribute recycling bins, and
report problem residences and businesses to SWEEPs and to Philly 311 through the Neighborhood Liaison Program.
All Clean Block Reps will work closely with SOSNA and have access to our cleanup-tool library. For more information
and to sign up, click here. Together we can clean up our neighborhood!

Check out the many other exciting events coming up in South of South!

YOU can help clean up our neighborhood. Sign up to be a SOSNA Clean Block Rep with the
Clean Block Campaign
The goal of the Clean Block Campaign will be to reduce litter through
an infrastructure of volunteers, or Clean Block Reps, throughout all of South of South. Block
Reps will disseminate information, educate neighbors, report issues to the City, and most importantly, schedule
clean ups with their neighbors. Help us make South of South the cleanest neighborhood in Philly!
The New Central Baptist Church and The Philadelphia School are partnering to present a free
screening/discussion of the film, "Fed Up." Produce and narrated by Katie Couric, this award-
winning documentary examines America's obesity epidemic, the reasons behind it, and what
we can do about it.
NEW DATE! March 26th! Come hear the Democratic candidates for the Second Councilmanic District,
incumbent Kenyatta Johnson and challenger Ori Feibush in what promises to be an enlightening (and
probably entertaining) debate that will be moderated by Philadelphia Magazine journalist and WHYY
NewsWorks contributor Holly Otterbein.
Penn’s Village, with the Center City Residents’ Association, the Logan Square Neighborhood

that has managed ad campaigns for more than 700 political races across the Country.  He has been the
principal media architect of two Presidential primary campaigns, has elected dozens of candidates to federal and
statewide office and lectured extensively on media and political strategy at Oxford University, the University
of Pennsylvania, and various other colleges.

In 2013 SOSNA's Community Impact Group

school senior with a $1,000 college scholarship.
Did you know a street tree can add up to 11% in property values to homes within 50 feet (according
to a recent study by the Wharton School)?  Trees not only add value, they make our streets more
walkable and beautify our entire neighborhood. The Southwest Center City Tree Planters are now
accepting applications for fall 2015 tree plantings. To learn more about the program, owner
responsibilities and to request a tree download one of the applications below!
Please Join us on April 22nd for the 2nd District Candidate Forum! Meet the candaidates,
incumbent Kenyatta Johnson and challenger Ori Feibush, and learn about their positions on the
issues facing our city and our neighborhood.
Would you like to see more vibrant shops, restaurants and businesses in our neighborhood?
You can help us make that happen by alerting us to what properties are available in the
neighborhood! SOSNA's Economic Development Committee is updating the listings of
available commercial space on the SOSNA Business Website and you can help right from your phone!
